Winter 2024 Product Update: Workflows, Roles, and Blocks
In the coming weeks, Zesty.io is releasing 3 new features - Workflows, Roles, and Blocks, all driven by the feedback we've heard from our users. This article provides a walkthrough of these features designed to improve your experience with our platform.
Workflow Statuses
Workflow Statuses allow users to create and assign custom statuses to any version of a content item, enabling teams to better organize and track content throughout its lifecycle. Here's how Workflow Statuses can simplify your content tracking process:
- Customize Statuses for Quick, Clear Insights: Assign unique statuses like “Team Review,” “Ready for Approval,” or “Publish-Ready” to easily understand the stage and important details of any content item.
- Team Accountability: Add statuses that indicate the team or individual responsible for a content item, ensuring clear accountability and smoother collaboration.
- Prevent Accidental Publishing: Use statuses such as “Work-in-Progress” to ensure that only finalized, approved content gets published.
- Flexible Updates for Progress Tracking: Add or remove statuses to signal stage completion, giving your team better visibility into content progress and deadlines.
- Control Who Edits Status: Restrict the ability to manage or change statuses to authorized team members only, maintaining workflow integrity and minimizing errors.
Thus ensuring smoother collaboration, improved oversight, and easier content management at every stage of the content lifecycle.
Custom Roles
Managing team permissions can be frustrating when everyone is stuck with predefined roles that don’t fit your workflow. For example, what if your SEO editor needs access to update metadata, but your lawyer should only review content without making changes? Standard roles can’t handle these specific needs.
With Zesty.io's Custom Roles with granular permissions, you’re in control. This feature allows you to create roles tailored to your team’s unique responsibilities, deciding exactly who has access to what — and how much.
Users can now create and assign custom roles with granular permissions for models and their content items. This empowers administrators to maintain control over who can create, read, update, delete, and publish content, improving security and streamlining collaboration across projects.
Blocks
Blocks, is a new feature in Zesty.io that transforms how you build and manage your website's pages.
With Blocks, you can create reusable, editable sections—like heroes, forms, or testimonials—and add them to any page on your site. Whether you’re updating an existing page or building a new one, Blocks give you the flexibility to stack and arrange modular components effortlessly.
Here’s how Blocks improve your content workflow:
- Consistent Design, Custom Content: Blocks maintain a uniform design across all pages they’re used on, ensuring visual consistency. However, the content within each Block can be customized for different pages, giving you complete creative freedom.
- Speed and Simplicity: Quickly drag and drop Blocks into place, saving time and simplifying your content workflows.
To get started, create your Blocks via the Blocks app, then add them to your pages using either Freestyle (as shown below) or the Block Selector Field.
